MSI or portable: choose knowing what updates automatically

Choose how you will maintain Iria
Iria provides MSI and portable ZIP distributions for Windows x64, but only the MSI installation supports automatic in-app updates. Its download homepage says the portable distribution upgrades through a manual safe-upgrade ZIP. Choosing ZIP does not remove model preparation or license activation.
For a regular PC where you want that update route, examine MSI. For portable use, also plan how to check versions and follow its upgrade instructions. Do not assume ZIP includes an updater the documentation does not offer.
Three separate preparations on one computer
The program. Start at the official downloads and establish which package you chose. Installer instructions and portable instructions are not interchangeable.
The license. Iria is a paid product. Activation and deactivation require a network connection. The license is revalidated at startup, with a seven-day grace period for connection failures. That does not establish an offline first-activation workflow.
The model. The first licensed run automatically downloads the roughly 2.5 GB Best Quality model, and the app remains blocked until it finishes. Prepare disk space and connectivity before an urgent task. Local translation does not make first startup independent of the internet.
Rehearse before you need it
Suppose you need to translate short messages on a Windows PC tomorrow. This is a suggested preparation, not a completed installation test:
- Choose MSI or portable based on how you intend to maintain that installation.
- Read the current download page and terms rather than relying on an old article’s asset link.
- Complete activation and the required download before the translation task.
- Try harmless fictional text such as “La reunión empieza mañana.” Review language direction and meaning before copying the result.
- Privately note your distribution choice and how you will check the next update. Keep license keys out of that note.
If the computer changes or an error appears, give support the version and package type. Do not blame the model merely because translation is unavailable: licensing, downloading and the application are different parts of startup.
Portable does not mean everything transfers automatically
Product documentation should not be interpreted as a guarantee that moving a folder transfers activations, settings or models between computers. Check the current steps for the destination. We also do not promise administrator-free installation on every PC or permission to run it on managed computers.
DeepL for Windows and QTranslate describe other desktop translation workflows, checked on 24 October 2026. Their requirements do not determine Iria’s. Distribution and maintenance belong in a translator choice too.
Iria is available for local selected-text and clipboard translation on Windows x64. Review its complete product information, then choose a package whose maintenance you can follow as well as the translation workflow you need.
